ADRIANA SUELI MUNCK GIL

Gil is Veterinarian graduated from the University of Santa Maria (UFSM) with a specialization in Animal Nutrition from the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA). She also holds a specialization in English Translation from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and is currently a Licentiate student in English and Literature at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Her academic interests lie in the fields of English as a second language teaching and translation in the medical area.

BEATRIZ FERNANDES CALDAS

Retired faculty member from the Tourism Department at the Institute of Geography in the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), she is currently a guest lecturer in the Lato Sensu Graduate Program in English Language Translation at UERJ. She holds a PhD in Letters from the Linguistic Studies Program of the Fluminense Federal University, having developed the thesis: “Discursos sobre/de tradução no Brasil – línguas e sujeitos” (“Discourses on/of translation in Brazil – languages and subjects”).

CAIRO PRADO DE CARVALHO

Holds a Specialization degree in English Language Translation from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ, 2025) and a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Fluminense Federal University (UFF, 2023). He conducted field research at the Republic Museum of Rio de Janeiro in 2021 and carried out a monographic study on the life and works of Franz Kafka. From the inception of the Integrated Translation and Writing Center (CITE/UFF) in 2022 until 2024, he also worked as a translator, proofreader, and academic advisor. Since 2023, he has worked as a freelance translator and proofreader, collaborating with postgraduate students and faculty across various research programs.

CLÁUDIA REBELLO DOS SANTOS

She holds a Ph.D. and a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and currently serves as a Professor of English at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). With over twenty years of experience in the field of Applied Linguistics and a growing specialization in Translation Studies, her primary academic interests include Audiovisual Translation (AVT), Accessible Audiovisual Translation (AAVT), game localization, translation technologies, and artificial intelligence.

FELIPE FANUEL XAVIER RODRIGUES

Assistant Professor of English at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), Dr. Rodrigues teaches in the Graduate Certificate Program in Translation and the Graduate Program in Literary Studies. He completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at UERJ funded by a FAPERJ Nota 10 grant. He holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from UERJ, with a research period at Dartmouth College, supported by a CAPES/Fulbright scholarship. He earned both a B.A. and a Teaching Degree in English Language and Literature from UERJ. Dr. Rodrigues is a member of the Executive Committee of the Luso-Brazilian Forum at the Modern Language Association (MLA). He is a Prociência FAPERJ/UERJ Research Fellow and a recipient of the FAPERJ Jovem Cientista do Nosso Estado grant. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the UCL Press Literature and Translation series.

GIOVANNA ESCORZA RODRIGUES DE MELO

She holds a Lato Sensu graduate degree in English Translation from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ, 2025) and a Bachelor’s degree in English and English Language Literatures from UERJ (2023). She also earned an International English Proficiency Certification from CaMLA (2017). During her undergraduate studies, she served as an English Language Monitor, offering academic support to fellow students. Currently, she is an English teacher at a private language school.

GISELLE DE ALMEIDA DA SILVA

She holds a degree in Social Communication/Journalism from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ, 2004), along with graduate specializations in Cultural Journalism from Estácio de Sá University (2009) and in English Language Translation from UERJ (2025). Since 2024, she has been working as a text editor and proofreader in the publishing industry. Her journalism career includes positions at major news outlets such as O Globo, Expresso, Extra, and the UOL portal, as well as freelance contributions to various media platforms, including O Globo, UOL, Omelete, Yahoo, and Quem.

GUILHERME DINIZ MACHADO

PhD student in Literature at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), with a master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ, 2022). He also holds a bachelor’s degree in English and Portuguese (UFRJ, 2018), along with specializations in English Translation (UERJ, 2025) and Children’s Literature (UFRJ, 2024). His research interests include contemporary literary theory, literary translation, children’s literature, and the interplay between language, discourse, image, and narrative.

LEVY DA COSTA BASTOS

He holds a PhD in German Literature from Fluminense Federal University (UFF, 2019) and a PhD in Systematic Theology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio, 2004), where he also completed a Master’s degree in Theology (1997). He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Theology from Bennett University Center (UNIBENNETT), with exchange studies at the University of Tübingen and the Theological University of Reutlingen (1993 – 1994) in Germany. At UNIBENNETT, he coordinated the Department of Human Sciences (NEP) and later managed the Theology program, both for on-campus and distance learners. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor of German Language and Literature at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), where he also contributes to the postgraduate programs in English Language Translation and German Language and Literature.

LUANA MAYANA SILVA DUARTE

She holds a graduate degree in English Translation from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ, 2025); a specialization in English-Portuguese Translation (2022) from the Daniel Brilhante de Brito Specialization Course for Translators; and a degree in Journalism from the IBMR University Centre (2023).

LUÍSA LEITE SANTOS DE FREITAS

She is a full-time English professor at State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). She holds a PhD and a master’s degree in Literature from the University of Brasília (UnB). She is the coordinator of the study group “Here Comes Every Joyce” and a member of the research group “Joyce Studies in Brazil”. She was previously a Visiting Assistant in Research at the Department of Comparative Literature at Yale University. Her research interests include literary translation and comparative literature.

MARCELA IOCHEM VALENTE

Full Professor at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). Post-doctorate from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio, 2023–2024). Ph.D. from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio, 2013). Prociência Research Fellow. Professional translator. At UERJ, Dr. Iochem Valente is the Coordinator of the Ana Cristina César Translation Office, the Coordinator of the Lato Sensu Graduate Program in Applied Linguistics: English, and the Founder and Coordinator of the newly established Lato Sensu Graduate Program in English Language Translation.

MARCELLA DE MELO SILVA

Translator, editor, and proofreader since 2010, Silva is experienced in both the publishing and academic markets. She translates for publishers such as Elsevier, Alta Books, GEN, and Blucher, as well as for non-profit organizations like Instituto Sou da Paz, Justiça Global, and Fundo Casa Socioambiental. She holds a degree in Psychology from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, with a specialization in Clinical Psychology from PUC-Rio and a specialization in English Language Translation from the State University of Rio de Janeiro.

MARIA ALICE GONÇALVES ANTUNES

Antunes holds a PhD in Arts & Humanities from PUC-Rio, which included a sandwich period at the University of Warwick (2007); a post-doctorate in the Graduate Program in Literature Studies at UFF (2017). Currently, she is a member of the teaching staff for specialization in English-Portuguese Translation (ILE/UERJ), a permanent member of the Graduate Program in Arts & Humanities at UERJ, and a visiting professor in the Graduate Program in Arts & Humanities at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB).

MARIA DO CÉU CARVALHO

Carvalho holds a Master’s degree in State, Government, and Public Policies from the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO), in partnership with the Perseu Abramo Foundation (2023), a specialization in English Language Translation from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ, 2025), and a Bachelor’s degree in English and its Literatures from UERJ (1986). She is an English language teacher with experience at the State Department of Education (SEEDUC) and the Foundation for Support of Technical Schools (FAETEC) in Rio de Janeiro.

RENATA THIAGO PONTES

Adjunct Professor in the Department of Anglo-Germanic Languages at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), she teaches and supervises students in the Specialization programs in Applied Linguistics: English and Translation. She holds a PhD and a Master’s degree from UERJ’s Graduate Program in Letters (2015 and 2008, respectively). With extensive experience as a translator and proofreader since 2004, she has worked with a variety of institutions, including FAPERJ, FLUP, the Ana Cristina Cesar Translation Office at UERJ, the National Historical Museum, the Imperial Museum of Petrópolis, the Castro Maia Museums, FIOTEC (FIOCRUZ), and others.

SIMONE GOMES DE OLIVEIRA

Dentist with a master’s degree in Restorative Dentistry and a doctorate in Clinical Dentistry from the University of Campinas, she also graduated in Portuguese-English Language and Literature, with further specialization in English Translation. Her research focuses on dentin adhesion, restorative materials, and tissue aging, combining clinical, laboratory, and translational approaches. She works at the intersection of Dentistry and the Humanities, with studies on scientific language, discursive practices, and specialized translation of academic texts in health sciences. She collaborates with national and international networks on translational innovation, sustainability in dentistry, and critical analysis of multilingual scientific communication.

VIVIANE RODRIGUES RAMOS

She is a professor at the Language and Culture Center of Fluminense Federal University (UFF), where she is involved in the Universalization of Foreign Languages Program (PULE) and the Modern Foreign Languages Program (PROLEM), focusing on the teaching of French as an Additional Language. In addition, she conducts research and works as a translator of French at the UFF Translation Studies Laboratory (LABESTRAD-UFF). She holds a specialization in English Language Translation from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ, 2025) and a Bachelor’s degree in Portuguese-English Language and Literatures from the same institution (UERJ, 2003). Currently, she is pursuing a degree in French Language and Literatures at Fluminense Federal University (UFF).
